My flight arrives late at night or early in the morning. Can I still check in?

Yes. Late arrivals are not a complication — they are simply a different kind of arrival. Let us know your expected time in advance and we will ensure someone is here to receive you properly, regardless of the hour. A room arriving at midnight deserves the same welcome as one arriving at two in the afternoon.

I want to check out late. Is that possible?

It often is. Let us know the evening before and we will check availability. Late check-out, when possible, carries a modest additional fee — the specifics depend on how much of the day you would like to keep. We would rather you asked than left earlier than you needed to.

Can the hotel store my luggage before check-in or after check-out?

Of course. Leave it with us. Before check-in, after check-out — the luggage stays here and you go and use the city. Çukurcuma has the kind of streets that reward an extra hour of wandering. The bags will be exactly where you left them.

Do you offer an airport shuttle service?

We do not operate a dedicated shuttle, but we are happy to arrange a private transfer for you through a trusted local provider. Istanbul’s airports are well connected — Hammamhane sits close to the metro line that runs directly to Istanbul Airport (IST), and a taxi or private car to either airport is straightforward to organise. Let us know your needs and we will make sure your arrival and departure are handled without fuss.

What is your cancellation and modification policy for direct bookings?

For direct bookings made through our website, the standard policy allows free cancellation up to 48 hours before your arrival date. Cancellations made within 48 hours of check-in, or in the case of a no-show, are subject to a charge equivalent to the first night’s rate. We understand that travel plans change — sometimes without warning and for reasons entirely outside your control. If something unexpected happens, contact us directly. We will always consider the circumstances before applying anything rigidly.

Are taxes included in the room rates shown on the website?

The rates shown on our website are exclusive of VAT, which is applied at the current applicable rate in Turkey. The total amount — including all taxes — will be clearly displayed at the point of booking, before any payment is made. There are no fees that appear after the fact.

What is a credit card pre-authorisation, and do you require it?

A pre-authorisation is a temporary hold placed on your credit card at check-in — it is not a charge. It is a standard practice that allows us to cover any incidental expenses during your stay. The hold is released in full at check-out, assuming no additional charges apply, and typically clears within three to five business days depending on your bank. We require a valid credit card at check-in for this purpose. If you have questions about how your specific bank handles pre-authorisations, it is worth checking with them directly before you arrive.

Can I pay for my stay with a different credit card than the one used to book?

Yes. The card used to book does not need to be the card used to settle the balance at check-out. Simply bring the card you intend to pay with and let us know at check-in. The only requirement is that a valid credit card is present for the pre-authorisation hold.

Is breakfast included in the price?

Breakfast is not included in the room rate — and this is a deliberate choice rather than an omission. Hammamhane sits at the edge of Cihangir, one of Istanbul’s finest neighbourhoods for independent breakfast culture. Van Kahvaltı Evi, a ten-minute walk away, is the kind of place people rearrange their mornings around. The bakeries between here and Tophane are worth the downhill walk. The Çukurcuma market supplies everything a kitchenette requires for a quiet breakfast at home. Every room comes with a Tchibo Cafissimo machine, coffee and tea on arrival, and a fully equipped kitchenette. The first cup of the day is always yours to make, at whatever hour the day decides to begin. We chose not to replicate what the neighbourhood already does better than we could.

Is it possible to get an extra bed or a baby crib for a child?

Most of our room types already include a sofa bed, which comfortably accommodates an additional guest. A baby crib can be arranged on request — please let us know before arrival and we will have it set up and waiting. We find it is one of those things best confirmed in advance rather than asked for at the door.

What is the difference between a Double Room and a Twin Room setup?

The room itself — its size, its features, its outlook — is identical. The difference is simply the bed configuration: a double room has one larger bed; a twin room has two single beds. If you have a preference, note it at the time of booking or drop us a message before arrival. We will do our best to accommodate it, subject to availability on the day.

We love that you asked. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate pets at Hammamhane — the building’s layout and the nature of our rooms mean we cannot guarantee a comfortable experience for animals or for the guests around them. Çukurcuma’s street cats, however, have no such restrictions and will likely find you on their own terms.

Is smoking permitted in the rooms?

Smoking is not permitted inside the rooms or anywhere within the building. The balconies and patios attached to certain room types are outdoor spaces — if you smoke, use your judgement there, with consideration for neighbouring rooms. We would simply ask that the interior of the building remain as it is: clear, considered, and smelling of nothing in particular.

Is Hammamhane Hotel accessible for guests with mobility considerations?

All three buildings are equipped with a lift. However, due to the boutique nature of our property, we are not fully wheelchair accessible — corridors and room layouts were not designed with wheelchair use in mind. For guests who need more space and ease of movement, we recommend the Private Duplex Residence — our most spacious room type at 50m² across two floors, with wider living areas. Çukurcuma is a hilly neighbourhood with cobblestone streets, which is also worth keeping in mind when planning outings. Our team is always happy to suggest the most comfortable routes and assist however we can.

How do I use my 10% guest privilege at the Çukurcuma Hamamı 1831?

Simply mention at the hamam that you are staying at Hammamhane. That is all that is required. No voucher, no code, no printed confirmation — just that you are a guest here, which you are. The Çukurcuma Hamamı 1831 is directly next door, on the same street. It has been running its water through this neighbourhood for nearly two centuries. We would suggest going at least once during your stay — it is the kind of experience that changes the quality of everything that follows it. Book in advance if you can, particularly on weekends.

How far is the hotel from major historical sites like Galata Tower or Hagia Sophia?

Closer than most people expect, and further than the map suggests — Istanbul’s hills have a way of making distances feel longer on foot than they appear on a screen. It is both hilly and safe — and the two things are not unrelated. Çukurcuma’s hills are why the neighbourhood has remained itself. The streets are steep enough to discourage the kind of commercial saturation that has changed other parts of Beyoğlu. They reward the unhurried visitor and gently discourage everyone else. Wear comfortable shoes — not as a polite suggestion, but as genuine advice from people who walk these streets daily. At night, Çukurcuma is a residential neighbourhood that winds down quietly. The antique dealers close their shutters. The cafés on Cihangir’s edge stay open late. The streets are lit, inhabited, and carry the particular calm of a place that has been a real neighbourhood — not a tourist district — for a very long time.
